Digital Millennium Copyright Act Of 1998

Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998
a. Made it illegal to crack software for commercial or coercive use.
i. To crack software is to strip the software of all security features that prevents duplication.
b. Cracking software is only allowed for research and to test computer security. The DMCA also includes limited liability for universities and colleges, because universities and colleges are considered to be conduits when providing Internet to their students.
c. The Act also partially allows for copyright holders forcing website owners to delete infringing material in order to be free from infringement claims.
